Unique is the word that comes to mind when one is describing our newest ward Mr. Potter. This young man is a Dutch/German mix, cute, lovable, happy, funny and weird looking. You see we can find the Dutch shepherd and the German shepherd in him but it looks like mom may have compromised her morals on her night on the town because there is something more in there. Whatever the case our boy Potter is about as sweet as they come, is about 10-12 months in age, is black/tan/ red and brindle in color and weighs in at about 50 pounds.     If you look up 'German Shepherd' I am pretty sure that the picture on the cover will look just like our boy Liam. This guy is absolutely perfect in look, symmetry, gait, size, breed definition and intellect. The only problem Liam had was a terrible owner who knew nothing of the breed and tried training him through heavy handed techniques leaving him confused and un-trusting. Upon Liam's rescue from this situation we saw dramatic improvement quickly, he embraced us with all the vigor and love that you could possibly expect.     Mr. Simon! 65 pounds of wide open, full battle rattle, 8 month old German shepherd puppy, complete with no off switch and a PhD. In 'un-fixing'. Simon approaches life with complete abandon, head long into whatever the day brings, to say our boy is a happy young man would be a gross understatement. This guy the very definition of all things German shepherd puppy; if it moves chase it, if it stands still play with it, if it smells Rollin it and if it is wet and muddy bring it home to momma. Having said all this, Simon is as sharp as a tack, absolutely gorgeous, wonderfully aristocratic and capable of being trained to do almost anything. ...     When it comes to MS Heidi only one word will suffice, stunning. This girl is without a doubt one of the most beautiful examples of the German shepherd breed that I have encountered in some time but what do you expect, she is Hans's mother. MS Heidi is 30 months old, has a wonderful classic black and tan coat, has a perfect gait, has perfect symmetry and weighs in at 70-75 pounds. This girl is absolutely brilliant, moving through all aspects of our socialization a training programs with speed and precision, all the while leading and coaching her pup Hans.     He is big, he is hansom, and he laid back and he is young, what more of an introduction you can give a magnificent German shepherd. This guy is named Hans, a German shepherd male, 1 year old, black and red coat, 80 pounds, truly a super specimen of the breed. Hans is fairly laid back for a male this age but I think stems from a strong confidence in himself, he has an air of authority about him. Socialization and training has been a yawning experience for him, he picks up everything almost instantly. This young man is a black and red, male , German shepherd that is 3 years old and weighs in at 90 pounds ( soon to be 80 pounds ). Rex is without a doubt one of the most affectionate GSD's you will ever encounter, he loves all things human and quite frankly thinks he is a lap dog.     Our German shepherd rescue is extremely proud to announce Ms. Jewell is now available for adoption. Our girl has passed all of our socialization and training programs while simultaneously raising her young pup. This lady has overcome issues that would have killed a less determined canine. Jewell came to us malnourished, parasite infested, hairless from the mange, protecting a sick (and only) puppy and wonderfully determined to survive.     Please welcome Mr. Ernie to the ranks of the new graduates from our rehabilitation, socialization and training programs. Ernie is a coal black, male, German shepherd, about 18 months in age and that is now 64 pounds but will probably attain a weight of between 70 and 75 pounds. Our boy is very sweet, totally enamored with people of all ages but seems to excel with children.     Rowdy is a male one and a half year old Chihuahua / Rat Terrier Mix. He is approximately 14lbs with a moderate activity level. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He is a funny little guy. He is timid with humans at first, but warms up very quickly. However, with dogs it is a different story. Rowdy wants to play, play, play!! He does not care how big or small he wants to get in on the action. He will bark a little if he gets squished in the action, but it is just because he is saying 'Hey, guys I am down here playing too, watch where you are stepping! Then he jumps right back in the action. He is a little scared of loud ... (Read More)noises, and will retreat to his kennel if he hears one. However, he does not stay there long, because he is very curious and wants to know what is going on. He is not crated too frequently, but has done very well for the few hours he has been crated. He is crated when he rides in the car, because he is so small, and has done just fine. Rowdy did not really enjoy the leash at first, but now he is tolerating it just fine. He has darted out of the fenced in yard before, because he is so curious, but did not go very far and was very humbly picked up and brought back in. He has not been around cats before. Rowdy has done well with his foster mother's grandchildren ages 2-4. Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

NORTHERN FOSTER PROGRESS UPDATE: Julie is currently with me. She has only been with me for a week, and has made huge progress! She is house trained now, is learning not to pull on the leash, and is learning not to jump. She is a really quick learner! She is an absolute sweetheart, and loves to cuddle. She sleeps on a dog bed in the bedroom the entire night, and is really good in the crate when I am not home. She is really friendly around people, and enjoys playing with other dogs. She has done very well in the backseat of the car and has gone on a 2 hour ride. She eats in the kitchen with the other dogs and I can reach my hand in the bowl ... (Read More)and pick it up without any issues. If she finishes her food first, she walks by the other dogs, but does not disturb them. She will make a great dog for one lucky family!! JULIE'S SOUTHERN FOSTER TELLS US: Julie was my foster dog while she was down south. She is a very intelligent girl that loves to entertain herself with toys. She loves to play with other dogs once she gets to know them. Part of her job every day was to make rounds with me around the farm to check the goats and horses. She was very well behaved around the livestock. Sometimes she would ride the ATV with me but mostly she would run alongside of it. She LOVES to run and would make an excellent jogging companion. She also loves to swim! She likes to figure new things out and picks up on training fairly quickly. Our family loved the time we were able to spend with Julie. She will make an excellent addition to a family Julie arrived on December 6th a noon and is experiencing what many rescue dogs experience with the many changes now has taken place in her life. She spent 2 days ALONE in a crate with 60 other dogs barking, bouncing and hearing many other noises that she has never heard before. Then, she is taken from the crate in the truck into a new home with other dogs and people she has never met before. Information overload is the main cause of adoption failure so we require that our dogs have a 15 day quarantine with not contact with anyone outside the family household to help them adjust. There are three things in life that make humans grow up, death of a parent, going to jail and moving-yes moving is right up there with death of a parent-dogs go through the same emotional adjustment. With the help, love and guidance of the foster, the dog that arrives, is not the same dog in 6 or 7 days, however, what Julie is going through in the last 12 hours is the moving experience. It is important to remember that all things are new and new rules have to be learned, such as where to eat, don't eat off of the counter, how to eat, go to the bathroom, where to sleep, walk on a leash etc, this needs to be introduced very very slowly over a 15 day period. Her southern foster mom tells us that she just loves her 'sweet face and her favorite thing to do was traipse through the woods and swim in the pond---if that is your favorite thing to do, well sounds like Julie is a your perfect match.PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, SEE MORE PHOTOS, AND INFORMATION ON THE DOG: www.rescuedogvillage.com (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER: Gadget is a 15 month old 8 lb., female Chihuahua mix. We are happy to say that she has completed her heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free!! Gadget is a very sweet girl, and a quick learner. She already knows sit, down, stay, and go to your bed. When she gets really excited, she gets really silly and spins in circles! She loves her tennis balls and stuffed toys. Gadget is not really interested in interacting with other dogs, she prefers the company of humans, and is happy to spend the day being your buddy while you do the daily chores. She loves to curl up on a pillow in someone's lap. Right now Gadget is a ... (Read More)little too interested in her foster mother's cats. If she gets too close and the cat growls she will back off. She may be able to do -exist with a dog savvy cat in her new home. Please keep in mind all interactions between a cat and dog should be supervised, and if either animal is showing signs of stress, it is the owner's responsibility to remove the animals form the situation. Gadget does well in the crate during the day, but does not enjoy being in one at night. She would prefer to sleep at the foot of someone's bed. Chihuahua's are very sensitive to the cold, so right now Gadget is not enjoying going outside. Her foster mom always has a sweater on her when she goes outside to make sure she is warm. She loves going for rides in the car, and is very easy to walk on leash. Gadget is extremely smart, but also very sensitive. You could say she almost 'takes it personally' when being corrected, and gets very sad and will 'pout.' This is something her new owner should be mindful of when redirecting her behavior to their desired behavior. However, the great news is Gadget is so smart and aims to please, this should be no problem at all. Gadget's foster mother says she was protective of her and her daughter to her husband and teenage son at first, but once she go to know them her behavior was much improved. Gadget had trauma earlier in her life and it is possible that it was at the hands of a man, however, we do not know this for sure. It is important to remain patient while these dogs are learning to trust humans again, because you never know what they have experienced earlier in life. The ideal home for Gadget would be a quiet home, with a low activity level as she does not enjoy lots of commotion. Her new home may include children as long as they were over the age of 8. She is very small and does not eat very much so apartment or a house would be fine. She would be wonderful as a companion for an older person who desires a dog, but cannot do much physical activity as her exercise needs are very low. She would be happy to curl up and watch the 'Price is Right' on your lap every morning. She would also make a nice companion for young couple living in their first apartment, who have busy schedules, but want a dog. Her new home many include another dog who is similar in size and had a low activity level that wouldn't mind a napping friend. However, she would be fine as an only dog as well. Please fill out an application if you think Gadget sounds like the right match for you.PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, SEE MORE PHOTOS, AND INFORMATION ON THE DOG: www.rescuedogvillage.com (Less)

Animal ID: RDV508HANK (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

UPDATE FROM SOUTH: I had the pleasure of 'babysitting' Hank for two days. I have to say he is an awesome and well adjusted little doggie. He entered my home that has 9 dogs ( personal and foster) with no reservations. He played well with all of my dogs. They range from an 8 pound Chihuahua to a 80 pound bulldog. He snuggled in my bed with the rest of my pack like a member of our group. Hank will make a great addition to any family. Imagine being in the middle of the desert on an extremely hot day. No sign of food and water for miles, you have no idea when your next meal will be, or if you will ever eat again. This was essentially how Hank ... (Read More)was found; by a young girl getting off the bus, who happened to have a huge heart. She saw that Hank was extremely frail and weak ,picked him up and carried him all the way to her house, where she and her mother worked together to begin Hank's rehabilitation. Hank is a male 14 lb Chihuahua mix and is approximately 1-2 years old, he is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He has been de wormed and is in the process of being dewormed again. Hank does well in a car and on leash, and is in the process of being house trained. He also does well in a crate. Hank has done well with people of all ages. Although he typically does not pay much attention to children, if they are willing to give him lots of love and affection he is happy to oblige. He enjoys playing with other dogs, but is a bit unsure about kittens and cats. He has not acted out aggressively towards any felines, but tends to shy away. Hank is a submissive dog who just wants to be with people and given affection. An ideal home for Hank would be one where his new owners would be home more often than they are not. As you can imagine his life was quite lonely before and he wants to make sure he will never be left alone again. Hank has a moderate energy level, and enjoys running around, but prefers to be on the couch next to his people. He is still a little frail so he needs lots and lots of healthy treats and food to get him back to an ideal weight. Hank would do well in almost any family as long as they were willing to let him snuggle up on the couch and give him lots of attention to assure him he will never be abandoned again. If his new home were to have children it is recommended that they are over the age of 8, as Chihuahua's have very fine bones and can be easily unintentionally injured by a small child.     SOUTHERN FOSTER TELLS US: Hi My name is Andrea and I am Lisa's southern foster. She lives with me,my husband , my 9 month old son and 4 other dogs (and often more when I have more fosters) on my 40 acre farm in Louisiana. She gets along well with all of my dogs. She enjoys running and playing with the other dogs! Lisa is full of life and energy. She is looking for her loving forever home! What is it that dogs have that human's lack? Lisa and her two siblings previous owner discarded them and left them to fend for themselves. They were found on a cold, winters night at the edge of the woods in January 2014. They were cold, wet, and were only ... (Read More)a couple of months old--in human years, they were three months old. Our southern partners are committed to the dogs, they never give up on them and never ever hesitated to spare any expense to save them---so for 243 days-come rain or shine, they came even when they were sick, even when they had a busy day, took Lisa and Mugsy to the vet, gave them a bath, walked them, made sure they had clean water daily, gave them their medication and lots of love-they are true hero's.     UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER: Howdy, from Louisiana! This is Kristi - Venus's foster mom. I have sweet, sweet Venus. She has gained a little weight but is in really good health. I got tickled at her one evening at feed time. Our routine is for me to open the gate to the back yard at which point Venus and her foster sisters Beth and Sally (now adopted) run for their pen where their food is waiting. This particular evening I only counted 2 dogs at the gate. Then I heard a whimper. It was Venus - she was on an old trampoline that the dogs play on. The chair she used to climb on the trampoline was turned over on its side so she could not get down. I ... (Read More)rescued her and she ran to the pen with her sisters to eat. She is such a sweet, loving dog. She likes to run and play but when she gets tired she finds a quiet dog house to get in to relax. Another funny thing is the day Venus and her foster siblings were chasing birds in the back yard. The birds would fly over the yard and the dogs would run from side to side trying to catch them probably hoping one would land in the yard. No such luck. They did get plenty of exercise, though. Venus is a great dog and I love her so much. She deserves a home of her own. She will make some lucky family a great new addition. Venus was a little shy and timid towards me at first but now she comes to me on her own for me to pet her and love on her. She plays very good with her foster brothers and sisters. She does not play as rough as they do so she will back off after a few minutes to play by herself. Venus is a good name for her because just like the Roman goddess of the same name, she is all about love. She likes to give 'kisses' to her foster brother Job. Even though Job is older and crankier, Venus does not let that stop her. I call Job Venus' boyfriend. Venus is such a good, little dog. Sometimes I pick her up and put her in my lap for a few minutes which she does not seem to mind. Venus has never given me any trouble other than trying to dig in the backyard. I know that any family who adopted her would be more than happy with her. (Less)
