Our German shepherd rescue has been blessed with the responsibility of finding a new home for an absolutely phenomenal young man, appropriately named, 'Barron'. Our boy has, without question, one of the most appealing and approachable personalities that that I have ever witnessed in my years of working with the breed. To say that Barron is gorgeous is probably a major understatement, long flowing silver and black coat, eyes that can see your soul, beautiful posture and a commanding without being forceful demeanor. Lhasa Apso Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Shiloh came to us in terrible condition. His story goes something like this....he and his sister Coco were dumped by their former owner with two children one summer, at the grandfather's house. Leaving the grandfather to take care of dogs and children he was unplanned for. He was left under a car port in a small crate with no heat even when it was 25 degrees. He was soaked in urine when we rescued him. We are very certain that he had very limited interaction with humans. Despite coming from these deplorable condition, he is learning very quickly that humans can be trusted. LHASA APSO DOGS are not your typical lapdog. Lively, friendly and ... (Read More)outgoing around the home, it is also bold and full of spunky attitude. These charming and elegant canines believe themselves to be the protector of the household, and they take that job very seriously. The Lhasa Apso develops close bonds with its owner and may seem suspicious of strangers, but it has an excellent sense of restraint and judgement. Maltese Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ADOPTION PENDING - Despite Coco's rough start and terrible experiences with humans in the beginning, she is very loving. She loves to follow her foster mom wherever she goes. She enjoys playing with dogs of all sizes and mills about when she is outside. Coco really loves to be inside, when she is done playing with the other dogs she waits by the door to come in. In addition to playing with other dogs, Coco likes to fetch toys that are bigger than her, and when she is done she loves taking naps in her foster mother's lap. The ideal home for Coco would be one where she could spend lots of time with her humans. She is a true lap dog and her ... (Read More)favorite thing to do is snuggle. Coco's new home may possibly include children over the age of ten, who could understand that she needs a little time to warm up. Coco is a small gal so apartment living or a house would be fine. She is very fast, and a fenced in yard would be ideal, but is not required. Her exercise level is moderate , and walks and playtime would be sufficient to fit her needs. Animal ID: RDV552LUCY (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lucy is a female Yellow Lab hound mix, spayed and up to date on all vaccinations. We think she is between 3-5 years old. She is approximately 48lbs. Lucy is your typical country girl, laid back and friendly with everyone she meets! She has a low activity level, likes to go outside and run and play, but she quickly settles down to take a nap and in the sun. She is not a fan of the rain, and she will let you know that! She howls and 'talks' to let you know she is stressed. Lucy is a little afraid of thunderstorms, but her foster mom tells us this fear is manageable. Lucy is friendly with other dogs, and people of all ages. She is also ... (Read More)friendly with other animals. While Lucy does enjoy with other dogs, being close to people is her thing. She chose to lie in a small bed made for a terrier under her foster mother's computer desk to be close, even though she had her own large dog bed available. Lucy loves riding in the car and relaxes in the back seat freely. She is completely house trained. Lucy tends to pull a little on leash, but we are actively working with her on improving this behavior. She is not the biggest fan of the crate, but tolerated it when she was receiving her heartworm treatment. She is allowed to be free in the house and at night in her current foster home.     Ms. Bella is a one year old female German shepherd that came to our rescue in pretty sad shape. This young lady had been raised in an environment that forced her to be submissive to survive a very aggressive older male. Though at first we were not sure what we had to work with, our girl rose to the occasion and has never looked back. Today Ms. Bella is the open and loving girl that one would expect from a one year old German shepherd.     Jax will be able to travel north after June 1, 2015. Little Jax has had a rough start in his first 3 years on this earth, but we have made a promise to him that he will never have to experience all these hardships ever again. Jax's foster mothers' son was helping a friend move furniture when he noticed a little dog outside next door. He was shivering as it was 20 degrees out and the dog appeared extremely malnourished. Her son went and knocked on the door next door and told them it was too cold for the dog to be outside. The tenants informed him, that it was not their dog and the previous owners had left him there. They said ' we throw him ... (Read More)some scraps.... every once in a while.' Jax's foster mother's son was infuriated by this and he picked up Jax and put him in his truck and took him home. It was there that they bathed him and fed him, and gave him a warm place to sleep. Our foster said you could tell by the look on Jax's face he was extremely grateful. Jax has every reason in the world to hate humans, but he doesn't. He has lots of love to give, and is being shown that humans are good every day now.     ADOPTION PENDING - Puff Daddy has been with his Northern Foster for a little while now, and was previously with a Southern Foster in Louisiana. Upon his arrival in CT it took him a few weeks to warm up to his northern fosters. He was comfortable observing at first and approaching new situations on his own time. By allowing him to take his time, his northern fosters have created a safe environment where he feels comfortable. Currently, Puff Daddy is very affectionate with his foster mom and dad, and can be picked up by both of them. After his initial arrival he was introduced to each of the foster dog's one at a time and did very well. He ...     Bobo is a very friendly, curious, loving dog. He is very curious and likes to check things out in the house, but generally doesn't bother things. Once he has had a chance to investigate he settles down quite quickly. He loves to be with his people, and be a part of what they are doing. He has been around children before and done fine, but he seems to be more interested in adults. He gets along very well with the foster dogs in his home, both large and small. He really enjoys being outside, so rainy days are tough for him, but chew bones seem to occupy him on those days. On days where he can be outside, sometimes he needs a little help with coming inside when his foster mom says it is time, he is extremely intelligent and loves to learn. He is house trained using a doggie door and has never had an accident in the house. He is excellent on leash, and rides well in the car.     Genie has a loving and open personality that allows her to be engaging to almost anyone and a respectful demeanor that allows her get along very well with other dogs. We know little about genie's back ground other than she was on her own and in need of help. This young lady will probably never be any larger than she is right now which would make her an excellent size for a home environment. To say that genie is smart would be gross understatement, while working with her I have found her to be down right brilliant, she can be taught to do almost anything.     PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AND FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, SEE MORE PHOTOS, AND INFORMATION ON THE DOG: www.rescuedogvillage.com Benji spent almost the entire first year of his life in the dog pound in Winnsboro, Louisiana. He often did not get fed on the weekends. He was at the pound with another dog who is a Doberman mix named Sandra. As chance would have it they were pulled from the pound the same weekend and now live in a foster home in Connecticut with 5 other dogs and a cat. The first thing Benji's foster mother noticed about him was the sparkle in his eyes. It is amazing that this dog that spent almost a year in a cage, had such an ... (Read More)unbreakable spirit.     UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER:Gadget is a 16 month old, 9 pound Chihuahua mix that came to us from down South. She was found as a scared and hungry stray, heartworm positive, with a large scar on her rear left leg and a turned out right front leg. No one knows for sure what happened to Gadget, but our guess is that she might have experienced some sort of trauma for such a small, young girl. However, that does not stop her from running and getting around like any other dog--it adds to her character and makes her even more special. Having gone through heartworm treatments, and some good, old-fashioned TLC, Gadget was able to travel up North to come ... (Read More)find her forever home. She is heartworm free and, despite her occasional limp, she lets nothing slow her down. While in foster care Gadget's fears and anxieties have melted away. She is now a healthy, happy, friendly, and very smart little girl. Now that Gadget has been in CT for several months her personality is really blooming. Her foster family says they have never met a Chihuahua as friendly as she is. Several strangers have also commented on her wonderful manners during a trip to Petco. Gadget is smart. She learned quickly to sit, stay, roll over, and go to bed. Gadget has a little southern bell sensitive side. She walks around like a princess, ears perked up with pride and seems to 'take it personally' when her behavior is corrected. She will actually pout for a few minutes. Then her sweet demeanor comes right back. She is house broken, and will even go to the door and scratch, which is uncommon for small breeds. Baths are tolerated. She behaves, but prefers it to be quick. Gadget likes her crate and does wonderfully in it during the day with her favorite toys while her foster family is away, but she has been spoiled and allowed to sleep with her foster mom's 12 year old daughter at night. This is where she prefers to be at night and will curl up and not make a peep until morning. She does not get along very well with her cat brother and sister, but she knows she is not allowed in the room they stay in and respects that boundary perfectly. She would probably do fine with cats that are willing to put her in her place, but her current feline siblings are skittish and she enjoys chasing them. Gadget is not around other dogs much right now but when she does meet a dog she does just fine. Gadget enjoys a car ride, but right now she is not enjoying all this cold and snow. She will tolerate it long enough to go out for a bathroom break, but runs right back in to get to her bed by the fireplace. Gadget has a big fleece blanket that she adores, and makes a nest to snuggle in for a nap. She seems to do very well on a leash but, because of the weather, has not been very interested in walks. She is very curious of her yard and surroundings but when she starts to shiver she heads for the door! If Gadget is not laying in a warm, sunny spot or in someone's lap, she is chasing her toys or chewing her bone. Gadget has a low energy level/exercise need, but she does get playful often and loves a game of fetch with her favorite toy, a nylon stuffed disk with a squeaker inside it. When she gets excited she runs in big, fast circles. You would never know she suffered injuries to two legs! She also enjoys 'wrestling' with all her foster family members and knows to be gentle with her play bites. Gadget is very attached to her 12 year old girl and will cry at the door for a few minutes when she leaves. Gadget's cry sounds like little squeaks. She is OK after a few minutes but her whole body wags when she comes home! When Gadget was first rescued it was recommended that her ideal forever home be a quiet, low- commotion house, possibly with an elderly couple or a home with no children. This certainly would be fine, as she is perfectly content with attention from anyone she can call her own, but after Gadget has shown her true colors, we think a normal household with gentle children (ages 8 and up) would be great, too. She would not do well with being left alone for long periods of time though. If you are an active, outdoor family that is always on the go, Gadget may not be for you. But if you are looking for a little lady with lots of love to give, and who wants nothing more than to be with you, Gadget is your girl!     UPDATE FROM SOUTH: I had the pleasure of 'babysitting' Hank for two days. I have to say he is an awesome and well adjusted little doggie. He entered my home that has 9 dogs ( personal and foster) with no reservations. He played well with all of my dogs. They range from an 8 pound Chihuahua to a 80 pound bulldog. He snuggled in my bed with the rest of my pack like a member of our group. Hank will make a great addition to any family. Imagine being in the middle of the desert on an extremely hot day. No sign of food and water for miles, you have no idea when your next meal will be, or if you will ever eat again. This was essentially how Hank ... (Read More)was found; by a young girl getting off the bus, who happened to have a huge heart. She saw that Hank was extremely frail and weak ,picked him up and carried him all the way to her house, where she and her mother worked together to begin Hank's rehabilitation. Hank is a male 14 lb Chihuahua mix and is approximately 1-2 years old, he is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He has been de wormed and is in the process of being dewormed again. Hank does well in a car and on leash, and is in the process of being house trained. He also does well in a crate. Hank has done well with people of all ages. Although he typically does not pay much attention to children, if they are willing to give him lots of love and affection he is happy to oblige. He enjoys playing with other dogs, but is a bit unsure about kittens and cats. He has not acted out aggressively towards any felines, but tends to shy away. Hank is a submissive dog who just wants to be with people and given affection. An ideal home for Hank would be one where his new owners would be home more often than they are not. As you can imagine his life was quite lonely before and he wants to make sure he will never be left alone again. Hank has a moderate energy level, and enjoys running around, but prefers to be on the couch next to his people. He is still a little frail so he needs lots and lots of healthy treats and food to get him back to an ideal weight. Hank would do well in almost any family as long as they were willing to let him snuggle up on the couch and give him lots of attention to assure him he will never be abandoned again. If his new home were to have children it is recommended that they are over the age of 8, as Chihuahua's have very fine bones and can be easily unintentionally injured by a small child. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in adopting Hank.     UPDATE FROM THE FOSTER: Howdy, from Louisiana! This is Kristi - Venus's foster mom. I have sweet, sweet Venus. She has gained a little weight but is in really good health. I got tickled at her one evening at feed time. Our routine is for me to open the gate to the back yard at which point Venus and her foster sisters Beth and Sally (now adopted) run for their pen where their food is waiting. This particular evening I only counted 2 dogs at the gate. Then I heard a whimper. It was Venus - she was on an old trampoline that the dogs play on. The chair she used to climb on the trampoline was turned over on its side so she could not get down. I ... (Read More)rescued her and she ran to the pen with her sisters to eat. She is such a sweet, loving dog. She likes to run and play but when she gets tired she finds a quiet dog house to get in to relax. Another funny thing is the day Venus and her foster siblings were chasing birds in the back yard. The birds would fly over the yard and the dogs would run from side to side trying to catch them probably hoping one would land in the yard. No such luck. They did get plenty of exercise, though. Venus is a great dog and I love her so much. She deserves a home of her own. She will make some lucky family a great new addition. Venus was a little shy and timid towards me at first but now she comes to me on her own for me to pet her and love on her. She plays very good with her foster brothers and sisters. She does not play as rough as they do so she will back off after a few minutes to play by herself. Venus is a good name for her because just like the Roman goddess of the same name, she is all about love. She likes to give 'kisses' to her foster brother Job. Even though Job is older and crankier, Venus does not let that stop her. I call Job Venus' boyfriend. Venus is such a good, little dog. Sometimes I pick her up and put her in my lap for a few minutes which she does not seem to mind. Venus has never given me any trouble other than trying to dig in the backyard. I know that any family who adopted her would be more than happy with her. (Less)
